Floorball practice drill dribbling

Answer: It’s an eBook, and its delivered “manually” after payment, through e-mail (usually after a couple of hours, like with your order), so there is not a direct download link.
Best regards,

Floorball Running, Stick Handling and Decission Making

I continue with some valuable things from Dave Smiths lecture, from the international coaching seminarium.

He talked about the complexity in hockey, you need to skate, do stick handling and take decissions, which is not possible if you haven’t automized some of the skills or moves. If your skating isn’t automized, you need to focus on that and loose stick handling and good decissions.

Floorball running with ball practices and drills

Same principles can be applied on floorball, if you don’t have good and fast feets moving automatically, you will have problems with the game.
1. Quick and fast feets (coordination skills)
2. Good stick handling skills
will automatically give you more time on focusing on the game itself and to make good decissions during the game.

Test the footwork and coordination skills

You can test these coordination skills by a simple practice. Let your players run standing on the same spot, add stick handling and start to ask them questions. Do they drop in speed or have problems performing these two things together, then you know you need to work extra either on footwork or stick handling. Below an example from the stick handling and ball control eBook found on this page >>

Floorball 3–0, 3–1, 3–2, 2–3 Drills and Practices

Salibandy peliharjoitukset 3-0, 3-1 ja 3-2

Floorball drill 3-0 (to the right)

Floorball practice to the right starts with P1 running with the ball, P1 passes the ball to P2 who passes it on to player 3. P3 shoots.

Option 1 to the Floorball practice 3-0 (to the right)

P1 passes the ball to player 3 who takes the shot.

Option 2 to the Floorball practice 3-0 (to the right)

P1 passes the ball to player 3 who takes the shot. P2 receives a pass from “P1 que”, P1 and P3 in front of the goalie, P2 takes a shot from the distance.

Floorball practice 3-1 (to the right) option 3

Add a defensive player from the corner or from the middle to create a 3-1 floorball drill.

Floorball practice 3-2 (to the right) option 4

Add a defensive player from the corner and one that follows P3 to create a 3-2 floorball practice.

Floorball practice 2-3 (to the right) option 5

Perform the floorball practice drill as in the basic format, when the first 3-0 situation is finished. The attacking players will play defense against two forwards that will come from the corners.

Floorball Warm Up Practice – Attack and Defense

Salibandy lämmittely harjoite / harjoitus ja harjoitteet

Floorball warm up practice up to the left (a)

This is a combined floorball practice drill, where P1 starts from the border and takes a shot, after that he/she works with defense, running backwards in middle and finally checks / steers the imagined breakout towards the other border. This pattern can be used if you are playing with 2-2-1 or for example 1-3-1 set up.

Floorball warm up practice up to the left (a), change it to a 1 vs 1 drill

Make the floorball drill to 1 on 1 practice by using P1 as passive defensive player against P2. P1 will only mark his/her presence and let P2 pass to make a shot.

Floorball Warm Up drill – Shot from the border and checking

Salibandy lämmittelyharjoitus vetoja laidasta

Floorball warm up practice down to the left (b)

The floorball drill is started by P1 running in from the border, he/she takes a shot, after the shot, there is an imagined break-out for the opponent, therefore P1 runs backwards in the middle. Then he/she forechecks (imagined players / break out) and wins the ball in the corner. P1 picks up a new ball in the corner. P2 runs down and receives a short pass by the border and takes a shot from the angle. P2 repeats the same patterna as P1 has done towards the other corner.

Floorball warm up practice down to the left (b) add a pass

The floorball practice can also be performed like above, but when P1 forechecks towards the corner, P1 receives a pass from P2 instead of picking up a new ball in the corner.

Floorball warm up practice down to the left (b), make it 1 vs 1

You could also run this floorball drill as a one on one drill. Remove the pass in the corner and make the P1 play defense against P2 in the second sequence. Then P1 can do the running also facing the opposite goal (up – down to the corner – up to meet the offensive player)

2-1 Floorball warm up practice down to the left (b)

To change and develop the floorball drill further into a 2-1 situation, you can start with two players where P1 starts, the player following P1 goes for the rebound and picks up the new ball, which he/she will lose after the forecheck from P1 after that he/she will play 1-2 against P1 and P2.

Floorball warm up practice – Change positions

Salibandy lämmittely harjoitus - Paikan vaihdot ja lyhyet syötöt

Floorball warm up practices – Change position up to the right (a)

P1 starts the floorball warm up practice, by running with the ball towards the border, P2 runs behind P1. P1 passes the ball to P2 who takes the shot, both players goes for the rebound.

Four Options to the floorball warm up practice – Shot, pass and 2 vs 1

1. P1 doesn’t pass, P1 shoots and P2 goes for the rebound.
2. P1 passes and P2 passes back P1 shoots. With this option the floorball goalie also gets good practice in moving from side to side or post to post.
3. Add a defensemen who starts in the middle or meets up the two forwards and you have a simple 2 on 1 floorball practice.
4. Start the floorball drill from the corner or from the border, from left or right.

Youth / Childrens Floorball Practices and Drills

Salibandyn mailatekniikka / harhautusharjoite oikealla

6-10 V. Pallonhallinta ja harhautus salibandyharjoite

In the youth or childrens floorball practice to the right the players are practicing ball control and stickhandling. Players make a couple of short moves before two long moves with the stick and the ball, and after that a shot in to the goal.

When the players have taken the shot, they pick up the ball again and practice feints on the way back. The feints they can practice, can be a passing feint, shot feint or a body feint to start up with some basic dekes.

Running four floorball practices at the same time

By splitting up the rink / floor in small parts you can have like in this example four floorball practices up and running at the same time. You can run both floorball practices in this drill drawing at one end and therefore have many active young floorball players at the same time.
